RE Festival Focus- Vesak

Image
Vesak is the Buddhist festival that celebrates the birth, enlightment and death of Buddha. Wesak is a very colourful and happy celebration. Homes may be cleaned and decorated. In many countries, Buddhists will visit their local temple for services and teaching. They will give offerings to the monks of food, candles and flowers. Chanting and praying are an important part of Wesak. Today we made 3d lilies as this is an important symbol for Buddhists. When the man we now know as Buddha was born he was thought to walk 7 steps straight away and lilies grew under his feet, this was thought to be a sign that he was special and meant to lead his people.

PHSE- No Outsiders

Image
This week in PHSE we had another No Outsiders lesson where we looked at a new book. We discussed the book “My World, Your World” by Melanie Walsh that explores the concept of us all being different and using the world differently but the need to share it fairly. All the children were really mature at being able to share differences between us and the need for kindness and tolerance of others.

Maths- positional vocabulary

Today we looked at positional vocabulary in maths. We used those words like ‘above’, ‘below’, ‘between’, ‘ on front of’, ‘behind’, ‘next to’ to describe the position of something in relation to something else. All the children were really confident with this and enjoyed the task.

Today in Geography we looked at some different maps and located the United Kingdom on them. We then found out the four countries of the UK. We had a go at trying to make the shape of each country out of playdoh and putting them onto our maps.
