 This week in PHSE we had another No Outsiders lesson where we looked at a new book. We discussed the book “My World, Your World” by Melanie Walsh that explores the concept of us all being different and using the world differently but the need to share it fairly. All the children were really mature at being able to share differences between us and the need for kindness and tolerance of others. 

 Today we looked at the book 'The Perfect Fit' by Naomi and James Jones. It is all about shapes and trying to sort them into groups, unfortunately Triangle didn't fit with any of the existing groups. Triangle goes on a hunt to find a place she truly belongs. Whilst she found a group of triangles to play with, in the end Triangle realised she could work with all the other shapes to make fantastic pictures and she didn’t feel like an outsider any more. It was actually more fun to have the experience and games of everyone.  We made our own pictures using different shapes to show that all the shapes work best together. 

As part of our No Outsiders this term we looked at the book ‘Going to the volcano.’ Wee looked at how all the children and characters were different but they were all allowed to join in on the journey to the volcano. We talked about how we like to include everyone in our games and we don’t leave anyone out.  The children then drew their own volcanoes and a range of characters going on their journey. They came up with their own headings including “We can all join in”. “Everyone can join in” and “Everyone can come.” 

Today' PHSE lesson looked at our whole school intuitive of 'No Outsiders'. This explores how we are all different but all welcome.  Today we read the story of Elmer and considered how he felt at different points of the story, and how we could make him feel welcome.  We then had a go at making our own Elmer's, even our creations all ended up looking different to our friends, but they were all equally good.
