Our DT topic is moving mechanisms. This week we looked at picture books that have moving parts and then had a go at making our moving pictures and had a go making sliders.
Today in English we received a special video from the penguin and he answered some of the questions that we wrote to him yesterday. We were really interested in his answers. We then got into pairs and one of us pretended to be the penguin and one was the interviewer asking questions. The children were great at getting into character and pretending to be the penguin and then were really brave and showed their hot-seating to the rest of the class.
Vesak is the Buddhist festival that celebrates the birth, enlightment and death of Buddha. Wesak is a very colourful and happy celebration. Homes may be cleaned and decorated. In many countries, Buddhists will visit their local temple for services and teaching. They will give offerings to the monks of food, candles and flowers. Chanting and praying are an important part of Wesak. Today we made 3d lilies as this is an important symbol for Buddhists. When the man we now know as Buddha was born he was thought to walk 7 steps straight away and lilies grew under his feet, this was thought to be a sign that he was special and meant to lead his people.
Today in Year 1, we enjoyed making our fruit salads! We chose fruit from our previous designs and prepared, washed and cut the fruit into smaller pieces to put into our containers as a fruit salad! The children loved doing this and did such an amazing job.
