RE Festival Workshop- Sukkot

Today Year 1 had their first RE festival workshop with Miss Metcalfe. We looked at the Jewish harvest Festival of Sukkot. This festival is used to show thanks for the food we have and the opportunities provided. Some Jewish people will build Sukkah's in their gardens during the week of Sukkot and spend as much time in them as possible. Having meals, spending time with friends and family, praying and celebrating. 

We had a go at making our own sukkah's, usually the roof of a sukkah is made with leaves and twigs and branches so we tried to replicate this in our pictures.

 Today we did some observational drawings of flowers and combined them with our hand prints from last lesson. We looked really carefully at the size and shapes of the flowers and petals and tried to copy them. Everyone worked really hard and did some lovely detailed drawings. The finished prints look amazing!

This week in Maths!

This week we have been looking at representing numbers in different ways. On our hands, in a tens frame, a part-whole model, with cubes… the children thought of it all!  We looked at counting objects and showing these in a tens frame and the children really enjoyed using some lovely, shiny stones to do this!

DT - Levers and pivots

 We continued with our topic on moving pictures today. We looked at how a seesaw worked and talked about levers and pivots. We then had a go at making our own moving pictures with a pivot and lever. We either made a cat with a moving tail or a wolf with a chomping mouth!  The children really enjoyed this and all the moving pictures looked amazing!
