Big Phonics - er ir ur

 Today in Big Phonics we practised all the sounds we have learnt this week - er, ir and ur.

We had three games. One where we practised writing the different graphemes. Another game where we read lots of word with the er sounds and had to work out if they were real or aliens words. Then the last game was where we picked a picture card out of the bag and had to work out which er grapheme it had in it. We got a counter if we got it correct but lost a counter if we picked a rain card!

Everyone did really well reading all their er ur and ir words!

We looked really carefully at the size and shapes of the flowers and petals and tried to copy them. Everyone worked really hard and did some lovely detailed drawings. This week in Maths!

This week we have been looking at representing numbers in different ways. On our hands, in a tens frame, a part-whole model, with cubes… the children thought of it all!  We looked at counting objects and showing these in a tens frame and the children really enjoyed using some lovely, shiny stones to do this!

DT - Levers and pivots

 We continued with our topic on moving pictures today. We looked at how a seesaw worked and talked about levers and pivots. We then had a go at making our own moving pictures with a pivot and lever. We either made a cat with a moving tail or a wolf with a chomping mouth!  The children really enjoyed this and all the moving pictures looked amazing!
