English Hook - Oliver’s Vegetables

Today we started looking at our new text in English ‘Oliver’s Vegetables.’

A basket was on the table when the children arrived and they enjoyed looking inside at the different vegetables. We spoke about each vegetable and discussed if we like to eat them, how we cook them and how they grow. 

The children then had a chance to do some vegetable printing with prints made out of carrots and potatoes.

 Today we did some observational drawings of flowers and combined them with our hand prints from last lesson. We looked really carefully at the size and shapes of the flowers and petals and tried to copy them. Everyone worked really hard and did some lovely detailed drawings. The finished prints look amazing!

This week in Maths!

This week we have been looking at representing numbers in different ways. On our hands, in a tens frame, a part-whole model, with cubes… the children thought of it all!  We looked at counting objects and showing these in a tens frame and the children really enjoyed using some lovely, shiny stones to do this!

DT - Levers and pivots

 We continued with our topic on moving pictures today. We looked at how a seesaw worked and talked about levers and pivots. We then had a go at making our own moving pictures with a pivot and lever. We either made a cat with a moving tail or a wolf with a chomping mouth!  The children really enjoyed this and all the moving pictures looked amazing!
